This vote is despite the fact that Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Block said in a debate Wednesday evening that there is not enough support among European member states for such a step. In addition, he said, Albania still meets previously set conditions for abolishing visas.
Visa requirements for Albanians were abolished in 2010, but since then the number of illegal Albanians in the Netherlands has increased, which has led to once again the visa regime, reports “Het Parool”.
Parliament member Madeleine van Torerenburg has noted that in 2017, Amsterdam police and justice authorities demanded that visa requirements be resumed. That is because many Albanian criminals are involved in serious crimes, such as drug trafficking and trafficking in human beings.
