Minister Shala in Business Talks: Supporting local manufacturer

Minister of Trade and Industry Andrew Shala, at the invitation of the German Chamber of Economics Kosovo has been speaker on the platform “Business Talks”, where he has talked with businesses, pointing to the top priority that is supporting producers and empowering them. Shala has stressed that the absolute priority in his mandate has been, is, and will remain the support of local production.

I am deeply convinced that with a stable and competitive private sector and a quality producer we can develop the economy and increase production by strengthening the state. MTI's decisions have directly affected our producer, our farmer in general our country's economy, and as a result of our decisions, we see these with an increased number of employees, with increased quality production”, Shala stressed.

The minister has also talked about foreign investments, citing changes made to the Strategic Investment Law that have influenced the rise in demand to invest in Kosovo.

I'm also very excited to tell you that we've already started with implementing the strategic investment law that entered into force in 2017, and the year 2018 has gone due to an administrative directive that has been very difficult to complete by businesses. With taking office in October last year, I initiated procedures for changing this instruction and entered into force in January of this year, and from then on we have 12 businesses that have applied or are in the process of application. A single one has received strategic investor status “Sowe Kosovo LLC” which plans investment of 169m euros in wind energy and is the biggest direct investment in Kosovo by a private investor”, Shala said.

He has also spoken of the German giant's offer of auto production “Volkswagen”, which was praised by attendees as the first case a minister takes concrete steps to invite a foreign investor.

Shala also cited the fact that Germany is Kosovo's main economic partner and co-operation will continue through the German-Kosovo Oda.
