“We are committed to the European perspective of the Balkan countries, but this is not about enlargement. Germany and France want to show that it is in common interest to see Balkan development. At dinner we will discuss how we can find a solution for Kosovo and Serbia. Our idea is to see how to agree to ease and not make things difficult. There will be no decision tonight”, Merkel said.
While French President Emmanuel Macron has said that today's meeting is informal and that as such, it will discuss difficult open issues.
“We have seen that there are possibilities of solutions such as the case of Greece and Northern Macedonia. That's when people are brave. The main issue of discussion will be Kosovo and Serbia. We want the dialogue to continue. We do not want to impose solutions for Kosovo and Serbia. Hopefully there will be no emotions on the road ahead and new difficulties. Where there are tensions, we want to address”, Macron said.
