Wikipedia founder has spent nearly 7 years in a 30 square meters room at the Ecuadoran Embassy in London. He had received political asylum there, but Ecuador revoted his asylum last week and allowed British forces to arrest Assange within the embassy.
While Assad is awaiting a potential extradition to the US, he has been sent to a prison in Belmarsh, considered one of Britain's highest profile prisons.
With location in southeastern London, Belmarsh was named after the 11 September terrorist attacks. Foreign citizens in Britain were suspected of links to terrorist organisations sent to this prison.
As a result, the prison got the name “Britain's Guantanamo”, receiving the same reputation as prison with the same name in Cuba used by the United States. True Guantanamo was often accused of violating basic human rights and horrible torture.
The prison in Belmarsh is estimated to have increased cases of violence. A report for 2018 made a lot of 40 recommendations for improvements in prison infrastructure.
The recommendations included not allowing 3 or 4 persons in a cell but two people.
Despite the findings, however, some individuals in Titter rejected comparisons with infamous Guantanamon. They point out that prisoners in Belmarsh have access to education, labour, gym and libraries.
