European Enlargement Commissioner Johannes Hahn reacted after the Berlin Summit, saying he expects Kosovo-Serbia dialogue to be unblocked and that European Union member states support resolving the Kosovo issue.
Since the meeting, the bloc's top official had made it clear that his main goal was to continue dialogue.
Both Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron stressed at their organised meeting that his aim was not to find a solution to open problems, but simply to talk openly about problems in the region.
The issue of membership negotiations was not part of the summit agenda, which focused on seeking a solution to the stalemate between Kosovo and Serbia.
But, Hahn said two days ago, quoted by “Handelsblat”, that he has confidence that in late May, the European Commission will recommend the opening of negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia.
The recommendation, according to him, will be made on the basis of the criteria member states have agreed to, and the decision will then pass through.
According to Hahn, both Albania and Northern Macedonia have deserved the <x0 green framework” for negotiations, stressing that internal reforms, particularly that of the judiciary, while at the same time indicating the need for further fight against corruption and organised crime.
