The arrest of this person came two days after the American Union for Civil Freedom accused this group of illegally banning immigrants. New Mexico's Democrat governor, Michelle Grisham, had ordered an investigation.
Hopkins, 69, also known as Johnny Horton, was arrested in Sunland Packer, New Mexico. The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that he is accused of carrying weapons and ammunition.
“We don't care about that, he will be acquitted of charges”, said group spokesman “United Constitutional Patriot”, Jim Benvie, saying his arrest came as a result of political pressure from New Mexico's governor.
United Constitutional Patriots say they are a group of patriots who have helped the United States border authorities stop 5600 immigrants in the past two months.
The same person was arrested in 2006 after being dressed as a policeman, writes “toReuters”.
