Journalist Stephanie Bern, who has helped create the donation, says Notre Dame is a narrow <x0mic of humanity that was nearly destroyed” said Wednesday morning that donations have exceeded 1 billion during the day.
Various French companies have promised large sums of money for reconstruction of the medieval cathedral, which was engulfed by flames after an accident,
IOREAL promised 200m euros (172.7m euros) on Tuesday, while the luxury goods group LVMH, led by Bernard Arnault, the richest man in France, has promised the same thing.
Miliardier Francois-Henri Pinaul and the Total oil company have also pledged 100m euros each.
President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed that the cathedral will be restored to its former glory “within five years” and ready for the Paris Olympics in 2017.
It is known that some religious relics, including one of Jesus Christ's 70 sacred crown thorns and remains associated with St. Dennis, the Christian martyr and former bishop of Paris and the Saint Genevive, the patron saint of the French capital, have escaped the fire.
The fire that Norde Dame went through came out after 9 hours by firemen, while it became known that over 400 firefighters helped avoid as much damage from medieval architecture as possible.
