Ambassador O'Connell said the British Embassy offers the support of the Prosecutorial Council in recruiting prosecutors to resume, in order for Kosovo citizens to restore confidence in prosecutors' selection on the basis of merit, qualifications and no political influence.
The British ambassador also had a message for prosecutors in Kosovo.
“I hope this project can be a good start for restoring the citizens' trust. I have a message for Kosovo prosecutors. I have often said that Kosovo prosecutors can become Kosovo's new heroes because Kosovo is challenged to organised crime and corruption. Crime affecting Kosovo also affects Britain. So we have a common interest in cooperating in this regard. Britain has offered support to the prosecutorial system in Kosovo for the next two years to improve the” situation, O'Connell stressed.
While, Prosecutorial Council Chairman Bahri Hyseni stressed that for the next two years with British experts and the embassy, they will co-operate on some of the issues that are strategic to the Kosovo prosecutorial system.
Hyseni said they are working on developing transparency, advancing accountability, and no doubt the British project is helping the Council daily in this direction.
And the fact that we've decided to advance the field of co-operation, allowing the English Embassy's project to access even the top officials' selection, to managerial positions for the Founding Prosecutor in Pristina, and we are already in the process of selecting the chief Special Prosecutor's prosecutor. An important process for which we unanimously agreed to all members of the Council, including the State Prosecutor. The approach of British experts will be as they have access to the appreciative Commission. In all processes, but no doubt the process of selecting the chief state prosecutor will be based on the country's Constitution and on basic laws”, Hyseni said.
He has made it known that they are working on regulations, as he said most important for preference.
