Alarm: In three months over 30,000 tons of meat are annihilated

But despite what is said by AWK in just the first three months of this year, about 30,000 tons of meat has been destroyed. The freshest case is Prizren, where inspectors confiscated 500kg of meat with the expired deadline were getting ready to be sold for consumption in Prizren by the company's supermarket chain ėupper Vivaı, and even in February in Pec were confiscated 1,000 and 600kg of meat.

And seeing this situation, citizens are expressing their concerns about the safety and quality of the flesh that they are buying.

Jamiele Kutleshi has grave doubts about the meat that consumes her. She says they have no security for buying at slaughterhouses or on large markets.

You're not even sure you're buying through the slaughterhouse, nor on the brandet”, she says.

Even citizen Remzi Mucholli says that meat in Kosovo has no quality, so even in his family they have reduced the consumption of meat.

The whole amount of meat consumed in general doesn't respond to quality first for its origin we don't know, that's because even before many amounts of meat have come from Brazil, from South American countries, and it happened not to be of proper quality... When we don't have to say right very little and we've personally begun for meat consumption”, this citizen says.

The quality of meat that is being consumed in Kosovo has also spoken of Professor of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary, Afrim Hamid, who says it would be good to have better checks of imported or local meat.

The food technologist considers that the quality of the meat is adjusting to Kosovo's economic standard.

He also views the cooling chain as he emphasizes the need to increase veterinarian inspectors.

Even the meat that is produced on us on a daily basis if we don't cool it very quickly comes up to the meat cooling I think there's also a very important practical aspect that needs to be more or less careful, with a self-involved slaughter, because there's actually a very few of them, say Hamdi.

Despite the seizures of a lot of meat in the Veterina and Food Agency, they declare for The KP that meat imported into Kosovo is certain.

AVUK spokesman Lamir Thaci says the veterinarian sector has only confiscated and destroyed over 30 thousand pounds of meat products in this year's 3 months.

He claims that in recent years there is greater increase in meat purchases in European Union countries.

Kosovo Customs, on the other hand, suggests that by this period of the year, over 10,000 kilograms of its meat and by - products have been imported, as it becomes known that about 45 thousand pounds [45 thousand kg] are imported to Kosovo within a year.

The Adriatic Stavileci, spokesperson for Customs, says the country of meat origin imported to Kosovo is mainly South America.

And actually, an average bird's meat and beef is about 40 million, for years over 40 million, but mainly about 30 million are bird meats, while beef is about 10 million imports. Import countries are mainly from South America because it is the world's largest producer and we can say that this average has been the same for over 10 years in terms of consumption and sale of meat”, Stavileci claims.

We remember that last year Kosovo was involved in the meat scandal imported by Belgium.
