Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Veselini has warned drastic measures in the fight against corruption and organised crime.
In closing the EU-backed project and carried out by Italian Karabinier forces that have supported Kosovo Police in building capacities in the fight against negative phenomena, Veselin said Kosovo has marked progress but will continue more vigorously fighting corruption and organised crime.
He said Kosovo citizens are deeply concerned with corruption, nepotism and clientelemism in public institutions, while added that the time has come to act against these negative phenomena, the consequences of which are multiple.
Wessel said state institutions should be cleared of abusers and thieves belong to the dock, not the state.
He said Kosovo has no youth to lose, neither in the east nor in the west, while having a message for EU officials.
While Ricardo Serry from the EU Office stressed that terrorism and radicalism have been the problem in Kosovo, there has been a need for this support for the Kosovo Police and its institutions.
While Italy's ambassador to Pristina, Piero Cristoforo Sardi, has underlined the importance of this project for fighting corruption and extremism.
He stressed that corruption is not only a serious criminal act but leads to the destruction of the country.
Kosovo Police Director Rashit Qalaj has thanked the EU for helping security institutions in Kosovo fight these phenomena.
He said police are constantly strengthening their capacities to be able to face challenges and work with partners in order to fight corruption, organised crime, nepotism.
