At least 19 people have died and many others have been injured and confined after a large fire broke out in a multistory building in Bangladesh's capital, Dacha.
High flames are seen on the ninth and tenth floors of the building with a total of 22 floors. People inside the building tried to be let down by keeping on the cables of the building's climateization devices.
Local media have reported that at least six people have tried to jump from the height to escape fire.
Police have confirmed the number of people dead and have reported that 70 people have been injured. The fire had erupted around noon Thursday in the building used for offices on a busy trade zone road.
At least 20 fire extinguishers have participated in the operation, which have been assisted by army helicopters who have thrown water over the burned building.
Debashi Bardhan, deputy director of firefighters, said the situation is already under control and that most of the people trapped in the building are rescued from emergency teams, writes “Independent”
