Technical workers warn general strike unless they get paid 4 percent

Pay increases of 4 percent and returns under the management of the Pristina municipality are the main requirements of technical workers from the Family Medicine Centre and technical workers in 6 schools in the capital, who today have held a day strike. If they do not meet these requirements, they warn that the strike will [...]

If these requirements are not met, they warn that the strike will escalate, not excluding the general strike as well.

These workers until 2009 have been under the management of the Pristina municipality, but from that year they have gone to private companies, and what they say even then has been against them.

There are about 50 workers in all the Family Medicine Centers that have held a strike today, while at the main Centre of Family Medicine, there are 10 workers who have been away from work today.

The technical worker in this centre, Ulula Sopi, has said they are only seeking their rights and nothing more.

“As if all the workers who have asked for a raise in wages, we have come out to ask for salary increases, as we have a lot of work and we municipalities have returned us with private companies, we have always asked Shpend, the mayor of the municipality, to send us back under the management of the municipality. At times, the Shpend has responded, but he has not been able to bring us back, promised to return. We have very small incomes, we have 240 euros, we want them to match us with all the hygiene that is in villages”, she said.

Sopi warns that they will not give up on demands, saying that they will go to the end only to make their demands come true.

These requests, if not met, will continue with strikes”, she said.

Also on strike were 11 school technical workers “Naim Frajri”, where Nazif Hyseni has said they are earnestly seeking to return under Pristina municipality management.

With equal rights as we are private as those with state. That's why we've gone on strike one day. Conditions aren't fulfilling us like those with countries like us in private, only us six elementary schools is so unfair. At first, when we've been given 2009, we've been given without asking us anything, and we've been given on condition that it will be only as a pilot-project, if it succeeds in privatising all schools in Pristina's municipality. None have been privatised in only 6 schools. We're asking our right to bring us back under municipal management or to privatise other schools. We're just our right looking for”, he said.

Hyseni has been given details from the meeting that 10 days they had with the chairman of the Shpend Ahmeti municipality, where they were suggested to discuss this matter with the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration, and if they approve, then the Pristina Commission would be willing to take over under management.

However, Hyseni says the workers only care about the time of the elections.

“When the vote for elections comes we are tired, the ammo, but the vote will help, how to get the vote for us workers we don't hear at all”, he said.

On strike today were technical and school technicians “Dania”, “qrem Kbej”, “Genj Fista” ,“Hoxhe Kadri Pristina” , “Pjetr Pogdani”, “Asim Vok” and <x12mail Qemail”.
