Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel “is not a state for all its citizens”, in reference to the country's Arab population.
In comments made at the Instagram, the prime minister said that all citizens, including Arabs, have equal rights, but then referred to a highly controversial law that passed last year and said that “Israel was a nation only of Jews. ”
“Israel is not a state for all its citizens,” he wrote an answer to Israeli actor Rotem Selas. “Under the basic law of nationality that we have recently ratified, Israel is a state only of Jews and other Jews. ”
Netanyah is accused of demonising Arabs from Israel, which make up 17 percent of the population, in trying to mobilise right-wing voters for the April 9th elections, Periscopi translates.
He has repeatedly warned that his opponents would receive support from Arab parties and that they would make significant concessions with Palestinians.
Netanyahu, currently accused of corruption, is facing a difficult race by the centrist coalition led by Benny Gantz, and by Yair Lapid, former finance minister. /Periscopi
