“The question of dialogue and tax will be resolved quickly”

Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valon Murtezaj says convinced that the following weeks will find solutions to overcome tax disputes imposed on products coming from Serbia and Bosnia. On this issue he says senior US officials will come to Kosovo and [...]
On this issue he says senior officials from the US and Germany will come to Kosovo.
Murtezaj told Online Economy that the tax should not be an obstacle to further development of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
“As far as dialogue is concerned, this issue should not be an obstacle because it can become part of broader discussions, but we are also looking at recent weeks, last week, and next week we will have senior officials from both the US and Germany. We had statements from the British government, but other governments too. The following weeks will find a way to overcome the situation we are in, I have hope that Kosovo will do well in this direction. Things should be viewed in a broader context, not just one matter. The tax must be used within general discussions to overcome the”, he said.
The solution for overcoming this dispute also sees tax suspension, but says Kosovo should not concentrate solely on dialogue, putting aside other important issues such as visas and EU integration.
The question is about suspension, and I believe that the visit that will take place by senior American officials will now provide a solution to the current situation related to the tax, but also to dialogue and some other general aspects related to Kosovo's integration in the European process, because we have visas and slow integration process. All of these are part of the package of discussions, it's hard to focus only on one element to have”, he said.
It denies breaking ties with the US, even though the most powerful state in the world has opposed the Haradinaj government's decision of November 21st last year.
Not because we're partners and I believe that with some communication, all of this will be overcome. For us, the United States is the main partner in all of our ways so far and in the future”, he said.
Murtezaj says the recent war crimes issue in Kosovo should be properly addressed.
The “requires increased attention and a part of the conversation because it's the most fundamental thing, it's the human aspect, and I'm sure this will be addressed”.
According to him, interstate conversations cannot be called dialogue, but negotiation, as it calls Serbia involuntary to implement preliminary agreements.
The current “process called dialogue has a fundamental difference from the negotiation process. In fact, what is done now is the negotiation process because the parties negotiate not in constructive climates and especially the Government of Serbia and do not have the will to implement agreements that have been agreed on in advance. Similarly, the aspect of rhetoric is very serious that does not give signs of reaching an agreement, rather often for the transition of conflict. What needs to be done is that the three sides, including the EU, are clear about what they want and how they want to go there. We must not allow the outcome to be painful, I do not understand this rhetoric that has been used. Kosovo knows who it is, is a state, you know what it wants, has the way ahead of European integration, and is also interested in good neighbourly relations with all neighbouring countries. These are the fundamental principles that Kosovo applies and needs to work hard at their realisation and not to go beyond these” principles, he concluded.
