Criminal law professor Ismet Salihu, who is part of the Kosovo Penal Code working group, points out the reasons why the criminal act of pedophilia is not specified.
State prosecutor Besim Kelmendi says that in the new Penal Code, which is expected to go into effect in April of this, separate paragraphs have been introduced which are dedicated to this criminal act.
He says that with these changes, the sentence of life in prison has been envisioned in some cases.
And judges, on the other hand, say that not including the term as a pedophile, do not restrict them to pronounce maximum sentences.
Police records show that within the past year alone 62 cases of sexual abuse were reported.
Three other cases were reported as sexual and seven others as misuse of children in pornography.
