British Ambassador to Kosovo Ruair O'Connell has come to the defense of Swiss Ambassador Jean-Hubert Lebet, whose statement has sparked numerous reactions.
O'Connell writes on Facebook that the Swiss ambassador said what we all think”.
Here's his post in FB:
Ambassador Switzerland said what we all think. It is time for the people who want Kosovo to act against crime and corruption. It is a difficult challenge and not just for Kosovo. But those who act will have our support.
Otherwise, Ambassador Lebet took part two days ago in the inauguration of the water pipeline in several Sculered villages, saying it is not normal for the government from which it comes to finance such projects, because according to him, Kosovo has money but should not be misused.
It's not normal for the Swiss government to finance the irrigation here, because we know there's money in this country as well. We know that the value of this project is approximately 2.5 percent of the value for war veterans. But real veterans who fought for the freedom of this country. We are not happy to see if people receive this status without a right. So if the money was kept not to finance fake veterans we'd build a lot more water supply systems. It is very frustrating to see in this country where there are more civil servants than are in the countries of the region. Enough has been done to improve public administration, but it has yet to be worked in this direction”, he had declared, follows Periscopi.
For this statement, Infrastructure Minister Paul Lekaj has said that if he was asked, immediately he would send a letter to the Swiss ambassador to leave Kosovo.
Lekaj's statement has sparked further reactions, largely viewing his stance as absurd. /Periscope.
