These persons were planning to kill as many as “unbelievers” using a car and weapons, authorities said.
A 21-year-old from Offenbach near Frankfurt and two 31-year-old brothers from Wiesbaden are the main suspects in organising the attack.
“They had developed contacts with gun owners, rented a large car, and had raised funds to pay for weapons and murder plans”, said an official for information from the prosecutor's office, Roger Top Channel.
“The suspects are between the ages of 20 and 42, and most are of German nationality”, he added.
Police have confiscated 20,000 euros, as well as knives, narcotics, documents and electrical equipment.
Germany has been on alert following the jihadists' attacks across Europe in recent years. In 2016 a person had trucked into downtown Berlin, leaving 12 people dead.
