Foreign Ambassadors to Kosovo Powers

The statements of ambassadors of friendly countries and partners in Kosovo, through which now and how long they are criticising Kosovo's institutions for negative phenomena such as corruption, mismanagement of public money, nepotism and party employment, are not indiscreet and balanced, estimates the connoisseurs of developments in Kosovo. Moreover, they say, reactions to [...]
Moreover, according to them, reactions to these statements, by Kosovo high institutions' appointed officials, are reckless and endanger Kosovo's very good reports with its friendly countries.
Switzerland's Ambassador to Pristina, Jean-Hubert Lebet, during the inauguration of the water supply system linking 10 Scythew municipality villages, his state-funded project on Wednesday, has said that “is not normal for the Swiss government to finance water pipeline”, while according to him, “if money is saved and false veterans are not financed, more could be built than a 15x3>.
Minister of Infrastructure of the Government of Kosovo, Pal Lekaj, on Thursday, in a local television show, has reacted to the Swiss ambassador's statement, saying that if he were making decisions, he would have sent the Swiss ambassador home.
Ilir Ibrahimi, political affairs analyst and developments in Kosovo, speaking of Radio Free Europe, stresses that the state of Kosovo is a project in which a large number of friendly states have been engaged, which have contributed to the release, the declaration of the independent state and the construction of this state. According to him, for every cent spent in Kosovo by these states, responsibility is required because the money is from taxpayers of the countries that invest. At this point, Ibrahimi says the Swiss ambassador was right in his statement, while the reactions of Kosovo institutions officials are not, as he calls them, the best.
This could start creating a kind of gap with our international friends. They don't owe us to come, invest and help us become this country. They are doing it out of a good desire to see a more successful Kosovo, and if we, in turn, do not appreciate that, but rather make such accusations, as was in the case of Prime Minister Lekaj's statement, then I am confident that this friendship and partnership could be made. After all, the state of Kosovo suffers, because we are very aware that without the help of these friendly states, we have very hard time building a state as we love it”, Ibrahim stressed.
Betim Musliu of the Kosovo Institute for Justice says the assessments that have been given to the embassies of friendly countries in Kosovo regarding negative phenomena coincide with the findings and assessments this organisation makes.
The fact that we have such large corrupt activities, the fact that we have nepotism, and that we have continued extortion of the public budget, is something that every day experiences the citizen of the Republic of Kosovo. Any assistance coming from ambassadors to eradicate this governing mentality and this corrupting activity is welcome for the people of Kosovo. Therefore, the criticism of politicians at the address of these ambassadors is completely unacceptable and I believe they would have to be followed with consequences, for removing these politicians, who have dimmed Kosovo's” future, Musliu said.
Backed by the Swiss ambassador, Grand Britain's Ambassador to Pristina, Ruairi O'Connell. Through a text on the social network Facebook on Friday, he stressed that the Swiss ambassador said what everyone thought.
It is time for the people, who love Kosovo, to act against crime and corruption. It is a difficult challenge and not just for Kosovo. But those who do, they'll have our back-up, say Ambassador O'Connell.
France's Ambassador to Kosovo, Didier Shabert, through a tweet, has said France's “Embassy fully supports Switzerland's Ambassador”, adding that “corruption and nepotism are wounds for Kosovo”.
Other ambassadors' supportive statements to Swiss Ambassador Lebet, but their other statements criticising negative phenomena, Ibrahim sees them as natural.
They have a kind of base before making such statements. They have a reason and are not thoughtless statements. It is really disturbing, because if such a relationship is built, especially with states that are so important to Kosovo's future, such as the US and Great Britain, then what will happen to the greatest decisions that will await Kosovo on the road to integration, whether in the EU or in NATO. What has been demanded so far by friendly states is a kind of partnership on the part of Kosovo. When the ambassadors are told such things, those states are also told, and we are questioning the country's pro-operative future”, Ibrahim said.
But, Musliu suggests that behind the harsh vocabulary of Kosovo's institutional representatives at the ambassador's address, their failures are hidden.
“It is unacceptable that what is happening to our politicians, who have built a discours, trying to protect their illegal actions and bad governance, at the address of ambassadors who have made investments so large that I can freely say that the state of Kosovo itself is a product of extraordinary aid, which the international factor in Kosovo has given to”, Musliu said.
On Friday, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Pal Lekaj has hosted Switzerland's Ambassador Lebet. This minister, through a communique for the media, has said that Minister Lekaj has clarified that his statement -- Thursday -- is derived from the context from the media written.
“Lekaj, at any moment has asked for Switzerland's ambassador to Kosovo, and much less oppose a friendly state for Kosovo”, the media communiqué says.
Meanwhile, on March 28th, the Great Britain Embassy has withdrawn its support for recruiting the position of chairman of the Energy Regulatory Office Board (ZRRE) as a result, reportedly, disappointment with the Kosovo Assembly deputies' decision, for the failure of any of the candidates recommended by the implementing partner of the Recruitment Project.
Regarding the appointment of members on public enterprises, weeks ago the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany's embassy and the European Union Office in Kosovo reacted.
They have reacted to the appointment by the Assembly of Kosovo, Naser Shala, in the position of the director of the Kosovo Secretariat Agency's Comparison and Verification of Property.
After that, U.K. Ambassador O'Connell, Sorted in opening order Sign Disillusionment had resigned the position of chairman of the board of this agency. /Bekim Musliu/
