Yago Reidijk, 27, speaking from a detention centre led by Kurds, told the BBC that he had met Shamima Begun, a few days after he arrived in Syria. Shamima that world was 15, broadcast Express.
When asked if marriage to a 15-year-old is an inappropriate decision, he said: “was her choice. She asked that she have a partner to care for her, and I was invited. She was very young... she chose to marry and I chose to marry her”.
Riedijk said he fought beside the IS, but now he opposes this group and tried to leave it.
Begum, now 19-year-old, had left London with two schoolmates to join the IS when he was 15. Now she wants to return to the United Kingdom with her son.
Last month British citizenship was revoked.
