It is highlighted that US citizens will receive visas through the European Authorisation System (ETIAS) that regulates entry into the Schengen area.
Television refers to the ETIAS website, where it says the decision is partly based on expanded security measures in the region, including reducing the risks of illegal immigration and terrorism.
As documents, Americans need to pass passport, credit card or debit card and show an e-mail address. The visa will be valid for three years without limiting the number of trips.
The United States and the EU have an unresolved visa issue in Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, Romania and Cyprus. Of all EU countries, only citizens of these five countries must apply for visas to travel to the United States, CNN reported today.
In 2016, the European Commission released a report calling on the United States to abolish visa requirements for these five countries, as well as for the other 23 EU member states. In exchange, the same visa-free travel regime in the Schengen area would also take place for the United States.
But since Washington did not do so and since EU laws apply equally to all EU member states, the European Parliament last year voted to introduce visas for American citizens. The EC decision goes into effect in 2021.
Currently, American citizens in the EU travel visa-free with a game of up to 90 days.
