But, according to police, during the month, there were 645 people injured by 972 in January last year.
Baki Kelani, spokesman in the Kosovo Police, told Free Europe Radio that he referred to statistics for this period of time compared to the same period of the previous year, there are declines in accidents in general, but the loss of only one life remains disturbing.
He added that one of the priorities of the Kosovo Police is the co-operation at the level of relevant ministries, as well as municipal levels, with the aim of establishing co-operation and taking concrete action even in establishing static cameras, which would affect the rise of security in traffic.
“Police within its responsibilities besides other activities have formed the Task-Fort for preventing accidents in road traffic, and the operational and preventative plan of this Task Force has provided for the inclusion, co-ordination and co-ordination of different units on the ground, at checkpoints, street axes, as well as the application of various methods advanced by police units, for achieving the prevention of accidents at the whole, and in particular of those with fatal consequences, which, along with amendments in the law have provided a positive effect of<1> said Kelani.
In January last year, Kosovo has entered into force the new spirit of communications offenders, who envisions sentences of between 300 and 900 euros, as well as taking points from patent-seers for problematic drivers.
During January alone, police have imposed 30,000 sentences.
Basri Lenyan, director of Emergency Clinic within the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, announced that his clinic has faced a large number of those injured in communications.
Despite this, the Emergency Clinic has provided services for basic and advanced medical services, says Lenyan.
We have two dead people in clinics this year because of the many injuries they've received as a result of accidents. Often, there may be cases of injury pending because of the inability to deal with at present all”, Lenyan says.
Communications experts assess the whole situation as quite disturbing, with the reasons for increasing the number of accidents being disrespectful of communication signs.
The problem lies with drivers who do not respect the road code and traffic signs. Last year, the task force was established, giving recommendations on what needs to be undertaken in order to raise safety on the road. The results are expected this year from institutions that have a road security mandate in order to increase road safety. This high number of accidents remains the result of the driver's irresponsability by disregarding the signs. Especially at the speed of the road, not inconforming communications rules”, said Muhamet Krasniqi, the communications expert.
Civil car police patrol
According to Krasniqi, even the use of telephones during driving is one of the factors that reduce the safety of all participants in communications.
In 2018, 128 people died in traffic accidents of 137 dead in 2017.
