Deputy Governor Havolly has informed Eurostat officials about the progress made by the CEC in recent years to develop a stable statistical system, producing quality statistics needed for the decision-making process.
In this case, Deputy Governor Havolli argued that the BEC's focus is on monetary and financial sector statistics, external sector and financial accounting sector statistics.
“We are aware that without sound statistics we cannot monitor economic developments, nor make good economic policies. We need to be well-informed, to draft policies and make adequate decisions, both in the private and state sector. Therefore, the CEC is committed to producing high quality data. The CEC has been working on three key elements since its establishment to build a good statistical system: (a) we have invested in building capacities to respond to demand for high quality and time data; (b) We've always applied the latest international methodologies to compile data that is in the BQK domain; and (c) we've built an efficient data distribution system produced by the CQC. This year, the CEC marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment, and important steps have been made for this period of twenty years in the development of a statistical system that publishes quality statistics”, Deputy Governor Havolli.
He has also cited the challenges facing the CEC as they are: further advancement of the legal and institutional framework and full harmonisation with CHA EU acquis, the compiled statistics for financial accounts, as well as the strengthening of human capacities with additional staff and training.
Deputy Governor Havolly thanked Eurostat for its constructive support in advancing Kosovo's statistical system and that the CEC is ready to further strengthen this co-operation to send more data to Kosovo in Eurostat.
“The BEC would highly assess any support from Eurostat and other international mechanisms in the process of full harmonisation of Kosovo's legal framework with EU legislation in the field of statistics. Kosovo also needs support in the process of building a framework for drafting financial account statistics. Any support in this context would help us accelerate the full harmonisation of our statistics with those of EU countries”, Deputy Governor Havolli said further.
Eurostat representatives, led by Eduardo Barredo Capelot, Director for Statistical Co-operation in Eurostat, thanked the Deputy Governor Havolli for the briefing.
They expressed readiness for further support of the CEC and Kosovo in general, in further development of the statistical system and full harmonisation of statistics in line with EU acquis. /Born.info
