Forum board Chairman for Ethnic Reports considers it a big mistake when the presidents Thaci and Vuciq were allowed to talk about exchange of territories.
The two political classes in Kosovo and Serbia share the background, the 1990s, and the breakup of Yugoslavia, respectively. Until this process is complete, these people will believe that only their vision is the right one until their vision is ethnic division and nationalism”, Janjiq said.
Adding that as the situation currently stands with the 100 per cent tax on Serbian products, dialogue is unlikely to continue, Janzic claims that Serbian and Albanian leaders are not ready for real compromises.
On the other hand, in exchange for territories, neither does Helsinki Committee head Sonja Biserko agree. She says that most of this will affect Serbs in Kosovo themselves, especially those south of Ibri, and that is one of the most favourable solutions for them.
The last “did a research, what Serbs in Kosovo think about exchange of territories, and most are against. There were even about 70 percent of Serbs in the north. They are aware that partition exacerbates the situation of Serbs especially in the south. And those in the north are even more marginalized by being no longer acts of political or social”, Biserko said.
Biserko added that after the year 99, Serbs lost much time to articulate the politics of new leaders and gradually ended up under the control of the Serbian List.
With the establishment of the Serbian List, Belgrade's influence has been empowered in Kosovo. The party currently resides in Kosovo institutions, but does not represent the interests of Serbs there at all, but Belgrade. The Serbian list remains the disturbing group as far as Serbs in Kosovo are concerned when most of them are highly criminalised in northern Kosovo”, she has said.
The human rights activist said the idea of exchanging territories is not so new because it has been worked for years in Brussels. However, it remains optimistic that something like this will not happen, mainly the cause of Germany's insistence.
