As a result of the grenade launch, six people, including children and women, remained dead on the market, while serious and light injuries took 128 Albanians.
Representatives of municipal institutions led by Faruk Mujka, deputy mayor of the municipality, representatives of other institutions and associations, relatives of martyrs and citizens who had received various wounds that day were gathered at the scene to honour the victims and remember this day.
Deputy Chairman Mujka said March 13, 1999, was a terrible day, since dead and wounded victims were seen all over the market.
In my personal name and in municipal institutions we are gathered here to share the pain which, although the years are passing, it is not becoming dim because it is deepened in our minds, when it is known that there is where our most loved ones and many other innocent fellow citizens lost their lives, as well as the fact that justice has not yet given the last word. This day will never be forgotten, but it will be remembered forever so that new generations will be told what the enemy has been able to do to our innocent people”, Deputy Mayor Mujka said, the communique reports from the Mitrovica municipality's intelligence office.
At the scene where the assassination had occurred 20 years earlier, Sabedin Uka, Sadije Musliaj, who had suffered severe injuries because their feet, hands, and other body parts had been damaged.
They asked the state institutions to do more for them, since their lives are very serious.
