In the floods, which began two days ago, 12 people died in the Jawzyan province -- two others in Badgihis -- and also two people lost their lives in the province of Herat, said Shir Khan, spokesperson for Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority, Reuters broadcast.
Over 500 homes have also been destroyed by floods.
Officials in the province of Herat, located on the border with Iran, have given a higher number of victims than the Government. Abdul Hakim Tamaa, who is chief of public health in the province, said eight people have died in Herat from the floods, while nine others have been injured.
The floods have destroyed hundreds of houses and several historic sites, bridges and highways, said Yildi Farhad, spokesman for the province of Hera.
The World Vision Relief Organisation, through a statement, said tens of thousands of people in Afghanistan were affected by the floods.
