Thaci on the line with the Americans: They asked us to suspend the tax.

In a presidency report, it becomes known that American officials called for the suspension of the tax, for the sake of dialogue between the two countries.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, along with the country's prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, today has held a meeting with the chief European Affairs Director of the United States National Security Council, John Erath, and with US National Security Council Director Brad Berkeley.

As a statement from the presidency, Thaci and Haradinaj announced with senior American officials “have talked about bilateral relations between Kosovo and the United States of America, about the political situation in Kosovo and the region, as well as dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia”.

Erath and Berkeley “have reiterated the US administration's clear position that tax should be suspended in order to continue dialogue and efforts towards reaching a comprehensive agreement between Kosovo and Serbia”, the presidency's issued communiqué reported.

Thaci has assured senior American officials that, under no conditions and under any circumstances, the Republic of Kosovo will not jeopardise interstate relations and friendship with the US, the communique stresses.

These decisions should be in the function of preserving and strengthening strategic co-operation with the US and with our state dedication for dialogue and peaceful agreement”, President Thaci was quoted as saying.
