Young men, regular drivers, and nervous people are more likely to be distracted in driving, the study found.
And older women turned out to be better at controlling distance and attention on the road ahead.
Distraction is estimated to be the main reason for one in eight road accidents.
Norwegian scientists observed how personal traits such as age, gender, and personality affect the driver's distractions.
A recent report concluded that distractions during driving have a role in at least 12% of car accidents in many countries”, said researcher Ole Johansson of the Transport Economy Institute.
Johannson said: “I found young men to be among the people who are mostly distracted while driving”
But older women and those who said they could control their distracting behavior were less likely to be distracted during driving, says the study published in “Frontiers in Psychology”.
