The journalist's death has confirmed the Mexican authorities. They have announced that the journalist was eating breakfast in the town of Tabasko at the momen when he was shot. Rodriguez was the leader of a radio show that was broadcast twice a day.
He is the second journalist killed this year in Mexico, while the motive for killing is still unknown. Local authorities are investigating the case, while the central government has pledged to increase security measures for journalists and activists of human rights groups.
Nine journalists were killed in Mexico during 2018 alone. This statistics have led Mexico to rank fourth in the world for the most dangerous states for journalists. The organisation “Reporters Without Borders” says the most endangered journalists in Mexico are those who report political corruption and organised crime, writes “CNN”, Transmission Express.
