I remember the cruel religious practices, once popular in certain cultures, which sacrificed human beings often ʹ children in pagan rituals”, Pope Francis said.
These statements concluded a meeting called for a plan for priests who have sexually abused children and adults for decades.
“Clerics abusers of children are <x1vegla of the devil”, Pope Francescu said in a mass of 190 Catholic bishops and religious leaders Sunday marking the end of a four-day meeting for the protection of minors.
During the Mass, Pope Francis said any abuse within the Church would be “confronted with the greatest seriousness”.
Addressing cardinals and bishops at the Vatican, the Pope said awareness is growing within the church to ensure disciplinary measures to combat sexual abuse, while promising to protect children from “predatory soldiers”.
Pope Francis called Catholic leaders from around the world for the summit to address the scandal that has destroyed the Church's credibility in the United States, where it has paid billions of dollars to close legal issues → Ireland, Chile, Australia and elsewhere over the past three decades.
After the conference, the Vatican said it would formulate subsequent measures to ensure that all bishops know how to impose procedures against abuse.
But survivors and analysts say that although the meeting was an important step, the Vatican must now follow precise guidelines for bishops to handle cases of sexual abuse.
Peter Issely, one of the founding members of the completion of clergy abuse, an international organisation of human rights activists and abuse survivors, called the summit a success for survivors.
But it is expressed with reservations about not publishing documents that show the truth about how crimes of sexual abuse of children are covered.
We didn't hear anything in Pope's statements about publishing documents that demonstrate the truth about how they're being covered and covered by crimes of sexual abuse with children. So there's secrecy. If it is against secrecy and coverage of abuses, we should see the publication of these archives and criminal evidence Monday morning. ”
Meanwhile, Vatican analyst Marco Politi believes the summit was an important step for the church, as to date “90 per cent of the bishops conferences worldwide have not put the best practices” into operation for the protection of children in the Church.
