Venezuelan opposition supporters will hold several rallies across the country to show support for their leader, Juan Guaidos, and protest against increasingly isolated President Nicolas Maduro.
This mobilization is being done in order to increase pressure against the current president after Washington decided to recognise Guaido as Venezuela's president and enacted sanctions against the state oil company.
Maduro's critics hope similar actions will be taken by European states. It is expected that some European Union states will recognise Guaido as president in the coming week. Through a message published on social networks, Guaido has asked citizens to take to the streets and support him.
Otherwise, Maduro will also hold a gathering during today to mark the inauguration of former socialist elite Hugo Chavez. Venezuela is continuing to face a serious economic situation due to high inflation, the fall of mass production and departure of citizens to other Latin American countries, writes “Reuters”.
