All areas affected by mines and other explosive devices have been cleared in the Germ Park.

Since 1999, 258 thousand and 902 square metres have been cleared, where 375 caserole bombs, 8 anti-personnel mines and 3 other explosives were found and destroyed.

“in all cleared areas exists the international standard for demining, which is 99.6 percent cleanup security”, said Ahmet Salova, director of the Centre for Demination, the Defence Ministry.

Sallova suggests that there are no more war time mines in the park unless they are left there by citizens.

The “not only in the Germi, but in every area of Kosovo, explosives can be found, not mines or casserole bombs, but other devices like grenades and others. Our teams daily encounter such devices that are thrown out of the population in different countries. However, as for mined and bombed areas, there are no”. The Germ area is safe and can be used entirely for different recreation and activities”, Sallova added.

The last piece that has been uncertain in this park is cleared in 2013, with the help of Swedish KFOR, who has assisted it. KSF with armoured equipment to clean up debris and explosives.

Throughout Kosovo, 177 people have died as a result of mine explosions from the recent war. The number of wounded, however, is about 500.
