The action has been undertaken in order to save the storks, in co-operation with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
This action was necessary, since storks were building nests on electric poles, but they often touched on conveyors, lowering lines and suffering life on their own.
KEDS in this situation has asked the relevant ministry for instructions in detail how to act. Based on instructions from the ministry, KEDS has begun building nests with metal construction, above electrical poles. Those nests are much more stable and are designed to save many storks from eventual electrical contact.
The action, with full support from the ministry, was held several weeks before the migration of this species towards Kosovo. He has been monitored by ministry representatives all the time.
Maleks are a protected species in Kosovo as well. According to experts, the bird's characteristic is that it always migrates to the same location and builds nests exactly in the same location. On the contrary, if their nest is moved, they leave and do not return.
That is why already stable nests are built in their own chosen location.
