Betteli is the first EU leader to have married a partner of the same sex, planned to say that at the summit, which was the first to bring EU countries together with those of the Arab League.
Homosexuality is punishable by death under the laws of maturity in Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen. Other countries prohibit the activities of the same sex, including Algeria, Morocco, Oman, Tunisia, Syria, Kuwait, and some countries from the United Arab Emirates.
