The Minister of Education's recent decision to compensate for lost hours during the teaching strike is being rejected by the United Education, Science and Culture Union.
Ymer Ymer, from this union, told Radio Kosovo that the minister has made this decision without consulting the SBASK, and, according to him, this decision is unacceptable.
“We think the minister has rushed with this decision, because he has not held a preliminary meeting with representatives of the Education Union for compensation of lost hours. For the union, this decision is unacceptable. ”
Ymer also said they are consulting the legal office and the lawyer to take steps to suspend this unilateral decision and contrary to the Law on Strikes.
We are consulting with the legal office and the lawyer who has the SBASK. And that's the minister's decision we're going to send to court with the request for the suspension of the decision to be taken until the final decision, because we think it's an antilegal verdict. ”
While the chairman of the Council of Parents of Kosovo, Ymret Resiti, said they welcome that decision as well as the council after the last meeting has suggested that the compensation be made this way. Compensation of lost hours is in the interest of students, and teachers should have understanding, Resiti said.

We as the Council of the Parents of Kosovo support the minister's decision, consider him right and based on the Law, because the students' interest in this case is to replace lost classes. ”
The education minister has decided that lost hours due to the teachers' strike will be compensated as follows: five days will be replaced by spring break; five days on Saturday will be replaced during this school year, as well as five days extended to the end of the 2018/2019 school year. Teachers have held strikes from March 14th until February 1st, 2019.
