He has said that people in Kosovo have made progress, until he stressed that he is impressed with Kosovo youth.
On the other hand, Costett has voiced confidence that relations between the United States and Kosovo will continue in the future, but has demanded that no mistakes be made.
It has also assured that the United States will always be on the side of Kosovo.
The U.S. ambassador's full speech, Costnett:
Hello, it's an honor and a privilege to be a US ambassador at this exciting time. Returning to Kosovo after 15 years, I see that people in Kosovo have made great progress, in rebuilding Kosovo and preparing Kosovo for success on the world stage. I am always impressed with Kosovo-wise, energy, creative men and women who seize opportunities to build their future here in Kosovo. In relations between the US and Kosovo have had benefits in the two countries, and I have no doubt that our relations will continue in the future.
But don't make mistakes. Kosovo is in the second decade as an independent and democratic state.
It is for the people of Kosovo to take the generalities of making your leaders accountable for taking the necessary steps for progress. Again and again as I travel, I hear Kosovo citizens want three things for their family, peace, justice and prosperity. I think a country cannot expect success in these areas without making progress in others.
Reaching peace will require an agreement with Serbia, with mutual recognition. Achieving justice means taking concrete action to build rule of law and fight corruption at all levels and building prosperity means making great efforts to encourage international investments and economic development. Ensure the future requires a political leadership and a committed citizen to set equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of gender, religion or ethnicity.
I am convinced that people in Kosovo are willing to face these challenges. The United States will always be on your side. Happy Independence Day Kosovo” has been expressed by American Ambassador Philip Costnet.
