Kishor Singh, a doctor at a public hospital, announced that another 16 people are being treated because of the burns they've suffered and the smoke they've sucked. According to him, all injured persons are in stable condition.
A police official in the Sadar Bazar trade district said “Most of the people who died were sleeping when the fire broke out and lost their lives because of asphyxia.
India's prime minister, Narendra Modi, said this fire was extremely terrible and, through a statement, expressed condolences for the families of the victims. My prayers are for those who lose their loved ones. I want a quick recovery. Authorities are offering all possible assistance to the site of tragedy”, the Indian prime minister's statement said.
Fire broke out at 5 and 30 minutes of the morning local time in the old part of town, where narrow roads are loaded with many small production units.
The capital's deputy fire chief said they have saved at least 50 people, though some of them died later.
Lack of planning, control and security regulations often leads to such lethal cases in India, writes the Guardian”, broadcasting Express.
