The touching story of the woman who lost her husband in Thumana and was left alone with the 1-year-old girl

The November 26th quake with a 6.4-magnitude Ricter magnitude simultaneously was the strongest in decades to have hit Albania. Its focus was on the Adriatic Sea, about 30km northwest of Tirana. The November 26th earthquake extinguished three members of the Greek family. Doves of Greek, Celice Greek, and Symir Greek lived in one [...]
The husbands found death on the scene, while the 31-year-old came out alive from the ruins and passed away a few hours later at Trauma Hospital.
In an exclusive confession to the tvclean.al, Clotilde Grec's wife relates to the tragic night she lost her husband. Fate wanted her and her little daughter Clay to visit her parents the weekend we left behind and were not at home when the 6.4 quake struck.
Today, all in black, Clotilde is left alone with her 7 - year - old daughter, whom Scott had worshipped. Clotilde relates the love story with Scott, the great love he had for the girl, but also details from the tragic night.
It shows that the palace had suffered injuries since the written earthquake of the year, but the Greek family had seen this as a sign that it was a solid building. It calls it a warning tragedy as it shows that part of the wall had been lifted up in the bedroom.
Clotilde had talked on the phone Monday night with her husband. They had even joked about the quake that evening.
The 30-year-old shows that she had planned to leave for Tirana a few days earlier, and to return earlier, but she had been the one who had made her visit to her parents because she wanted to stay with her daughter.
At 3: 00 a.m. quake, Pelebe Greek had spoken on the phone with one of his nieces, who had asked them to leave the apartment on every occasion. But he had told him that Scott was asleep, that he was sorry to wake his son, and that “is nothing, and that we're used to earthquakes now”.
Clotilde also relates the last time her family was complete. The last pictures of Scott and the girl and the big gap he left in their hearts.
Saimiri worked at a glass factory in Tirana, Vinte-Gote, making the route every day. Even Pellumb worked, Lezhe-Tirana. The mother-in-law stayed at home. She was a lady in a good way. We met Scott, we fell in love.
How many years were you married?
We haven't had a wedding in three years. It's been a year and a half since the birth of the girl we've lived in, because I was at work and I was forced to leave and come, even on weekends.
Is this the girl, Clay?
Clyce. It's a combination of names of my name and Myrs. She's 1 and 7 months old. It was Mir's priority for everything. I'll do anything for the girl, say, it was an idol. Girls usually have an idol father, but he had worshiped the girl, as if she were the most special in the world, and proudly said it. We even told the girl we told her, and that's my girl.
How many days before the earthquake did you leave?
Sunday night at 12:00 a.m., he sent us to the highway for the Tirana van.
What purpose did you leave?
To visit my family. We had it planned. I asked her if I could go because I was a little upset about my parents, wanted to go back a few days ago and come back. But he said, "Just a few days to stay with the girl, because she didn't stay one day without the girl." He was at work all the time, he was very late from work, he was busy, and when he came, it only takes away all my tiredness. He followed us that day, and we did the last day, waiting for the van to come. He was playing with the girl on the car. We broke up, we left. We spoke again Monday evening, which struck the first earthquake at 10: 00 p.m. and told me, because I was very afraid.
What did he tell you?
It was around 10: 00 p.m. that we talked to all our family members, talked to my father - in - law, mother - in - law, and the girl and my mother and grandfather, and the earthquake struck. And they were fucking with me. They said he was too strong because they know I'm scared. Last year I experienced it with my daughter next quake.
The same building that collapsed?
In the same palace, I was alone with my daughter and had taken this earthquake thing. Only when the couch was moving did I get scared.
Was there any cracks the first time?
Yeah, there's been a lot of cracks the first time.
Tell us this conversation with Saimir, this earthquake?
Ask him about the girl, how are you all at large and then he said the earthquake fell. Did I tell you the truth? He told me. On the other hand, she said, yes, she fell nine, joking. I said, will you stay there? I'm glad it wasn't you, 'cause you'd be dead in fear of the earthquake. I told him I wouldn't stay inside even if I was, I'd leave. That's it. It's over, he said I'm going to bed, it's like 10 and a half hours, because he was tired of work. We hung up the phone, then that's it.
What about the next earthquake?
Not for the other guy, he didn't even feel. That's what the neighbors told me. There's another one, he's got his uncle's daughter, his father-in-law, and he told him to go outside because the earthquake struck. He tells them we've gone out to the door ourselves, but Mir is asleep and he hasn't heard anything and I'm sorry to wake the boy up because he's tired.
3:00, so an hour ago?
She begged him, or he'd come to us, or we'd all go out. Because their palace was one of these two stories that didn't hurt, not even the first earthquake.
But your palace had suffered a lot?
But our palace had, and it felt as if it were safer. Either come this way or we get out.
What did she say to Plumbe?
He said I'm sorry for Mir to wake him up, but we're not going out that it's nothing, we're used to earthquakes now, because it's really been many times that it's going down.
What about the great one who met you?
This uncle's daughter again. He called me. We felt it, we were awake. I write to Mir in WhatsApp, and I write the earthquake on us, because he told me about it at 10:00. I didn't get a message, he left the internet open because I wrote it a little later when we closed the phone. I write them on Monday you fell asleep and didn't answer me, but the message went. When I sent him this, he didn't get a message.
You worried?
I was a little worried, but I thought he left it without charge, because that's how he usually left the phone, he forgot to charge it. She calls me on the phone and tells me that Uncle's palace broke down, it's Mir and Uncle inside. And I didn't know about my father-in-law. I thought he said he was out. I told him they're out, they're inside. No, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. How did it collapse? It's all broken down. I still couldn't believe how the whole palace could collapse. Then I went straight. I got up and I said we're going straight. I left my daughter at home with Mom and left with my father and my uncle.
You got there...
When I arrived, what could you see... The police left us once. The part of my palace was not seen by the way because the entire palace was not destroyed, but only the part of our entrance - the triple entrance from the beginning to the end.
I was there when they took Scott out. I was at his feet when they put him in an ambulance. I followed him in my car to the hospital and stayed there. During the operation, we asked the exiters from time to time because normal doctors would not tell us anything. We were told there was only problems with our feet, and we were hopeful. When he left the operation, he went to intensive care and said we couldn't meet him. I asked a nurse, and she told me from her condition that she was better and that if she doesn't have a kidney hemorrhage, she'll pass. Now that I remember, that at the time, I found it very hopeful, he lamented me with a way that gave me a lot of hope. I managed to get into the room at a moment when the doctor came in and left the door open. I went in without permission actually because they wouldn't let me. I saw her, she was asleep with her oxygen mask on her face. I touched his forehead, turned his head around, but he didn't see me, didn't wake up. I talked to her, I told her to be strong, you're gonna spend it just for our daughter and me to spend the rest of our lives together. He didn't react, he just moved his head, but I don't know if I moved him or just touched him.
We went outside, stood at the intensive care door. I didn't move a moment because I couldn't leave him alone, it felt like he was gonna leave me. Another nurse came out, asked him, and told us that he constantly wants water. I was calm when they didn't go 10 minutes and the other nurse said to look for a doctor. When I saw she was in a hurry, I said something happened. The doctor said he'd tell me. He didn't tell me. I meet the doctor and he says he had a complications, he had a respiratory jam and he went into shock. We tried everything he said, but we could lose him. I told him to take a look at it myself. She had been wearing extra equipment, her face had turned black, her ears black, only her lips yellow. No movement, nothing, just breathing through machine. He was ready, but the doctor couldn't tell me there was no hope, but he said he could.
After a quarter of an hour, the nurse came out and called a cousin of Symir and my father and told them the news. I opened the door that called them and not me and saw they were both crying. Then I got it. I saw again that I couldn't. Even though I knew I'd never have it again, I thought I'd at least look at it. I went in there and I told them I wanted to see her, touch her, and hug her again. He was all cold, ice.
This is a serious event. You have lost the expensive man, but you have your daughter, the fruit of love between you and Symir.
She's all mine now. I wish he could live because he had so many dreams about the girl. He said: My dad's gonna be a dancer, and Daddy's gonna buy a car when he's 18 years old that Mommy's not learning the car, the girl's gonna teach him. Daddy's gonna get everything out of the bottom of the earth. Just the girl, don't miss anything. The situation was not good enough to meet the girl but said that she would work hard. He came from work and had his hands broken out of glass and said to the girl: “Look at your dad's hand” and she looked at and caressed his “She told him that Dad's health was now gone. All parents love their children, but he also had the way he expressed it. We have no apartment, we have no one now. Scott had a brother who had not lived in Albania for two months.
Saved?
He's with his family in France. He's married and has two children. While the sister co-operates with someone in Tirana. Now that the palace has collapsed, other relatives have fled to Lezha. I'm living with my parents in Debar. In Thumana I can live even if I'm sheltered here, like others have. I can't live with the girl.
If your house is rebuilt, will you be able to stay there?
No! I can't go to that place. I went and saw the ruins of the palace because I wanted to get something, some memory, some clothes, or something of Mir. But to live in that house, I'm gonna feel like I'm gonna live above his body.
Can you tell us from your phone the last picture with Scott and the girl on Sunday, when she followed you?
This is it. There are others we did that day.
So this is your last meeting with Scott? And Scott's last hug with the girl?
Yeah, it was the last one.
What about the earthquake a year ago? You said you were alone with the girl in the apartment. Did your apartment and the palace get damaged and what happened next?
Our entrance had a lot of injuries. At least in the room where I slept part of the wall was raised. The inside seemed to fall from moment to moment. They came to the municipality or the municipality, I don't know who they were, who they saw and photographed.
The wall said it was up?
Yes! There was a wall on the wall, as if it were out. After only one piece fell... I even get the girl when she ever got out of bed where she would go and put her hands on that hole. So far it's been like that, broken, unregulated. Only part of the kitchen was adjusted to our possibilities.
Did you fix it with your options? Isn't it that someone came to finance you to fix it?
No, no, nobody! In the September earthquake this year came back to see, but it was just what it was, it wasn't that this earthquake did any other damage.
What did they tell you about the earthquake a year ago and the last one? Did they remove the house that was habitable or inhabitable? Did they give you a chance to leave?
No, they didn't say anything like that. It's not even habitable, and it's not dangerous, and you have to leave for sure, you have a camera, you find a chance to escape. There's damage, we'll see, we'll evaluate and someone will come and assess and finance from the municipality, I don't know. They told us if you can't live, go to another rented country that the municipality will pay for a few months.
Another place inside Thummana?
Thumane, not elsewhere.
Other experts never showed up?
No, no.
Despite the promise you made, no one came to see what the damage was?
No. This year they came once again, but not experts, they were still in the municipality. They just photographed the walls.
Was your apartment only damaged in the palace, or was it just other apartments?
The entrance to the second floor was damaged, and the first floor was damaged, and they fixed people as they could. There was damage all over the palace, it wasn't just our entrance.
How many residents have lost their lives in your palace?
Seven. Three from my family, two from one family and two from another family.
Can it be said that it is a tragedy warned of the injuries that the palace has suffered?
I don't know. The warning was that while the walls were like that. It was all troubled, as it were. They were frequent, not just an earthquake.
You're a teacher?
Yeah, I was a teacher. Now I'm unemployed. I've been born a year.
Practically after this earthquake you're out of work, no home, no exact address where to go and head up and raise your daughter?
Except for the family, not in this area.
Do you have an appeal for the Albanian state? To find you or other Thumman residents? What would help you to ease your pain?
I just want my daughter to grow up the way my husband wanted her to grow up with all the good things in the world. Grow up in an environment, be close to me all the time. That's all I want is to keep him from missing. I'm going to work on my own, try all the ways and forces I have, and I'm going to miss nothing, but we're seeing every day how difficult life is getting and it's not all possible to do it all. The Greek family was a very special family. She knew the whole Thummana, not just me living with them. They've never had a bad word with anyone.
