Thaci: Balkans in dangerous situations, postponing EU integration is invitation for new mess

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is participating in the Western Balkans summit between hope and reality.

He writes on Facebook:

At the “Western Balkans summit between Hope and Reality”, organised by Friends of Europe, we discussed relations between the European Union, Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans, which are already at a major political and historical crossroads.

This is not our first time in such a situation - challenging, complicated, even dangerous. But it's supposed to be the last time!

“The European Union's strategy for expanding with Western Balkan states only created conviction that the European Union is giving decisive impetus to the goal of Kosovo and the countries of the Western Balkans for integration into the European family, but all the events that followed denied us all.

The European Union's blimp “is in decline. Some of the countries of the Western Balkans are facing a tendency to reverse democracy and we are seeing an increase in populism and nationalism. The Balkans have become geopolitical battlefields, and in these circumstances, the delay for later on of the European Union's enlargement project with Western Balkan states, reviewing the entire venture, is not the option, it is not the solution, it is not the migration. In reality, this option is the invitation for new confusion in the Western Balkans.

The new leadership of the European Union should show vision, courage and leadership, becoming a reliable partner for the Western Balkans. HTH
