A group of scientists on a one-year research trip have captured images of a rare deep - sea fish that can use its wings as though they were standing.
The Fisheria Shaefers fish can grow to five feet [1.5 m] and weigh 50 pounds [50 kg].
He has thick and cute skin with a distinctive smooth pattern that allows them to mix in his deep sea circle, where he survives by eating other fish and can consume animals almost twice its size.
The fish was found at one of the final stops during an expedition by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Research Office (NOAA).
This region has broad but still unknown spaces, as well as unique geological characteristics, the NOAA writes in a description of the mission.
The data from this expedition will allow scientists and managers to build a better understanding of the diversity and distribution of deep water habitats in this region, allowing informed decisions on resource management. ”

National Geographic describes the carnivorous species as the most ugly animal on the planet, and lives in what is easily Earth's most indisputable habitat - a lonely, lightless ending.
Because of the extreme depth they prefer, researchers used a long - distance underwater vehicle, or ROV, to explore the sea.

When they first recorded it, they thought it was a rock that had somehow ended up on a piece of coral. As they approached, they discovered that there was actually a wild fish standing on the soles of small legs.
