Police in Hong Kong intervened in several malls, attending and arresting several anti-government protesters. Hundreds of demonstrators blocked centres to draw attention at a time when all citizens go out to do Christmas shopping.
At one of the malls near the border with China, black-covered protesters marked the five-month armed attack at a train station where a group shot passersby and rioters.
Police have been criticised for failing to answer calls for help in time and did not arrest the perpetrators of the attack. Police later carried out several arrests and said the attackers are linked to criminal groups.
Police operations to disperse protesters from shopping malls did not go through without material damage, while shops closed.
Protests in Hong Kong entered 7th month. Demonstrators seek independent investigation into excessive use of the police force. The next requirement of the protest is to release all those arrested and full democracy.
Friday evening, police arrested a man who fired a pistol. After raiding his house, the police said they found an automatic weapon. It is alleged that his aim was to shoot police at the protest to cause chaos.
