Pawel Adamowicz, chairman of Poland's town of Gdansk, died on January 14th at the age of 53, after an operation, having been stabbed a day earlier at a charity concert in this town.

Zimbabwe's former authoritarian leader Robert Mugabe has died of cancer on 6 September, at the age of 95 in a Singapore hospital.

On his 88th birthday on February 20, 2012, during a television address by the capital of Harare, he said:

“People will choose the successor. People have chosen me. According to their wisdom, members of the ruling party will certainly choose someone when I say I am retiring. But not now. At this age I still have time, right?

The former French president, Jacques Chirac, has died after deteriorating health on 26 September at the age of 86 at his home in Paris.

On March 10, 2003, he announced that in the UN Security Council, France would vote against the use of the military force against Iraq.

Russian cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, the first man to walk in space, died on October 11th at the age of 85 at a hospital in Moscow.

On March 18, 1965, he said from Soviet space headquarters:

Alexei Leonov was the first cosmonaut to walk in space.

Iraqi citizen Ibrahim Awad Ibrahim al-Bandari, leader of the militant group, the Islamic State, which has been recognised by name, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, has been killed on October 27th at the age of 48 years during a raid by US Special Forces. He was hiding in Barisha village in the Idlib province.

American President Donald Trump, speaking from the White House, has announced this about al-Baghdad's murder by American forces.
