Kitarovic has left behind by a small margin singer Miroslav Skoro, who as an independent candidate for president managed to get 24.40 per cent of the vote.
Milanovic, who won 29.52 percent, and Kitarovic, who received 26.72 percent, will compete in the runoff on January 5, 2020.
