Kosovo sentenced to gun three others in Helsinki

The Helsinki District Court has sentenced a 32-year-old Kosovar to 10 years in prison because of an armed incident that took place at the centre of Helsinki in July. Kosovar was convicted of three counts of attempted murder and other acts. The defendant was found to have shot [...]

The defendant was found to have fired guns at the three brothers at the time of the day at the crossroads between Hietalahdenkat and Porkalankatu at the Helsinki campus. Two suffered serious injuries, reports Finnish media.

The suspect had been detained by police shortly after the incident, and the move continued in July.

According to the tribunal, the motive for the works remains unclear, although the defendant has cited a dispute between his family and the families of the victims, all of whom descended from Kosovo.

Two of the brothers who were shot were convicted of assaulting the man who shot them. The court said one of them had hit the 32-year-old man in the head hours before the shooting.

Another person with the same last name as the assaulted brothers was convicted of assaulting the armed person at the end of 2018.

A preliminary investigation conducted by police and prosecutors has said the armed incident has been the result of an insult that has occurred between two families.

At the beginning of the trial in November, the prosecution has said the armed parties and three brothers come from the same Kosovo city and that there have been tensions between the two groups.

The defendant had been attacked three times before the armed incident. The prosecutor said the latest attack on him had occurred in a construction space hours before the shooting, and one of the brothers was involved in the incident.

After this incident, the suspect had gone to his home in Vantaa to pick up a gun and return to Helsinki. The prosecutor said his aim was to confront the assailant and his two brothers.

They fought in Helsinki during the most busy hours of the day in Helsinki. Upon seeing them in the car, the gunman hit them with his van. He fired a gun until they left, so he shot one.

He then went to his car, where he shot a gun and stabbed the person who was lonely in the back seat of the car. The prosecutor has described his injuries as very serious.

The defense has said that 32-year-old had no intention of killing or hurting someone, but only wanted to intimidate them.

The convict has denied charges of attempted murder, but has pleaded guilty to the other two charges of “excessively overstepping” and another count of “risking”.

The convict lived in the Helsinki region, and recently Vantaa. It is said to have been CEO of a construction company founded in 2014.
