Hungary intends to increase its military presence in Kosovo with 100 additional troops in order to have nearly 500 troops in KFOR.
Increasing the number of troops in the international military mission in Kosovo was recently announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijártó.
Szijártó, in a proposal for Hungarian media in the Maggyn of the NATO summit in London, which marked the Alliance's 70th anniversary, said Hungary would deploy another 80 troops in Afghanistan to fight the spread of extremist ideology and violence in the region”.
Hungary will continue to support national security and defence forces in Afghanistan with half a million dollars a year over the next four years, Szijártó said, Hungarian news agency MTI reports.
Szijártó called it NATO's most successful defence alliance in the world and stressed the importance of preserving it, especially now when terrorists are presenting new challenges by adopting new technologies.
He also noted that illegal immigration, particularly in the Western Balkans, is on the rise again.
This increases the threat posed by terrorist organisations”, Szijártó said.
According to him, waves of uncontrolled migration are giving terrorist organisations the opportunity to spread extremist ideology worldwide.
