It is an especially important initiative, as it will provide an opportunity for a fruitful exchange of views on how to proceed with the debate over the opening of negotiations on the continuation of the European Council's decision last October and French proposals for Union enlargement methodology.
This confirms that more than 20 EU foreign ministers will participate in this informal meeting, exceeding the usual participation in such events, writes Top Channel.
The participants include the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Portugal, Cyprus, Sweden, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, Ireland and Slovenia. The European Commission would represent the commissionary responsible for its neighbourship and enlargement, Olivér Várhely, as well as Secretary General Helga Schmidt.
According to sources from the Foreign Ministry, the initiative is part of a series of actions of Greek diplomacy in support of EU enlargement with the Western Balkan countries, whose European prospects, as the official Athens emphasises, are in the interest of regional stability, as well as a priority of its foreign policy from 2003 when the Thessaloniki Summit agenda was experienced.
