Bulgaria's Academy of Sciences and Arts declared that the Macedonian language does not exist, and that it is a written regional rate of Bulgarian language, and that the Macedonian stance on the issue is false.
Likewise, the academy claims that the “claim that a Macedonian language exists undermines relations between the two countries”.
Bulgarian academics praised the Macedonian language as false following the adoption of the Macedonian-language Academy of Sciences and Arts Charter on 3 December.
A document from the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts has raised serious scientific objections. The Macedonian position is false “, said in a statement by Bulgaria's Academy of Sciences and Arts.
The Bulgarian academics' stance is in accordance with the declaration adopted by the Bulgarian government on 9 October, followed by parliament, which says that “documen of the European Union should not mention the Macedonian language”.
A meeting of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts on December 3rd of this year approved the “Macedonian language card”, which contains, reportedly, scientific facts on Macedonian language.
Otherwise, on 1 August 2017, Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia signed a friendship agreement that also envisions resolving issues of common history.
The work of the Macedonian-Bulgarian Joint Commission on Historical Issues deals with history textbooks in elementary and high schools in both countries, as well as with the commemoration of joint personalities throughout history.
