The United States has said that they will no longer send bomb - detection dogs to Jordan and Egypt after the death of at least seven animals of this kind because of what Washington has deemed inadequate care.
The death of each dog is a very painful event and we will take every possible measure to prevent this from happening in the future”, an American State Department official has said.
The decision to halt the dogs' engagement has come after the State Department General Inspector's Office has identified the deaths of dogs sent to Jordan and Egypt in September, broadcast relief.
About 135 dogs are part of the Anti-terrorism Assistance Programme, which helps eight states ensure border and aviation security.
Dogs only sent to Jordan and Egypt will continue to be there, American officials have said.
But a State Department official has said they will seek to improve conditions when dog treatment is in question.
