Eighteen deputies of the pro-Serbian opposition to the Montenegrin Parliament were detained after the incidents that caused Thursday, in an effort to prevent the adoption of a law rejected by the Serbian Orthodox Church.
According to the Serbian Church, the leading religious institution in Montenegro, the law on religious freedom will lead to the destruction of monasteries and churches.
The law, passed by the majority, envisions the statehood of property that the church cannot testify to belonged to before 1918.
By that date, Montenegro was not independent and was part of the kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenians.
According to local media, deputies of the Democratic Front, who support the Serbian Church's position in connection with this law, are currently at the police station to be questioned.
