Kosovo courts have frequently punished those who on behalf of the KLA war received funds as veterans without even being part of that force.
Today alone, the Peja Court has ruled two prison and fine sentences for two accused of high-ranking criminal acts, with defendants being a woman and a man, writes news.net.
Nearly 20,000 people are suspected to have been illegally introduced to the Kosovo Liberation Army veterans' list, from which they cost major damage to the state budget.
And this number is going down from day to day.
Ex-partor of The KLA, Faik Zogaj of news.net, says it has launched an initiative to persuade people to leave the lists, persons who do not deserve veteran status.
He says that so far, a total of 6 self-willed people have left the lists.
We've been campaigning to get rid of the lists because we've been waiting for the prosecution for three years. We have started the field the best way possible, with pleasure, and no more violence to persuade the sixth person. This month, six people left voluntarily. Tonight I believe the seventh person will be convinced to leave. This is where the Peja Prosecutor gave us support. So to get rid of prosecution they're leaving” themselves, Zogaj said of news.net.
Zogaj has also said that those who will leave the veterans' lists will no longer burden the state budget.
However, the state budget was also given a lot of money by the current number of veterans.
In the first quarter of this year alone, it is estimated that 40m euros have been spent on this category.
