“Arise” publishes report, shows how many cases of high-level corruption were identified during the year

Corruption cases are continuing to be carried year-on-year, and only during 2018 have 58 corruption substances been signed. As it was stressed that during a year of monitoring only 17 high-level corruption cases have been identified.
Arise's researcher, Rina Maliqi, presented the report, said that in all these cases of high-level corruption there have been low sentences, rejection of the charges and release of these officials.
And that, according to her, speaks of the low degree of fighting and punishing high-level corruption. Kosovo Prosecutorial Council Chairman Bahri Hyseni, speaking of the efficiency of their work, said that about 72 thousand criminal substances have been prosecuted during the past year alone. He stressed that only for corruption cases this year have six requests for protection of legitimacy in the Supreme Court.
Until he mentioned some disciplinary measures that were taken within the council to increase work efficiency
. The former chairman of the Commission for Legislation, Albulen Haxhiu, whose party has won the 6 October elections, said trust in the justice system must be restored.
This, according to her, should be done through strengthening departments within the Special Prosecutor's Office to fight corruption and organised crime, rather than establishing different forces.
This project was done with the support of the Netherlands Embassy through the Matra programme, Ambassador Gerie Willems said the adequate functioning of the judiciary is a precondition of rule of law.
